This one is pretty cut and dry when you get right down to it. Milwaukee, even after trading Josh Hader Monday to San Diego, has a pretty formidable pitching staff to work with down the stretch. That starts with the reigning NL Cy Young winner in Corbin Burnes, who takes the ball in this contest. He's been solid again this year, going 8-4 with a 2.31 ERA, a 0.922 WHIP, 31 walks and 160 strikeouts over 124.2 innings in his 20 starts this season. Burnes is 5-0 with a 2.08 ERA and 68 strikeouts over 52 innings in his last eight starts, during which the Brewers are 7-1. The one loss the team sustained in that stretch was a 2-1 loss to the Cubs where Burnes threw seven shutout frames. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh sends Bryse Wilson to the hill and he's just 1-6 with a 6.31 ERA, a 1.599 WHIP, 17 walks and 40 strikeouts over 55.2 innings of action in 13 appearances, 10 starts. The only real went to dent Burnes is the long ball and the Pirates traded Dan Vogelbach while they sent down Diego Castillo and Jack Suwinski. That's three of the five guys that had double-digit homers on the team that aren't on the roster. Throw the lack of pop in with the fact that Burnes is 6-0 with a 2.63 ERA, a 1.033 WHIP, 13 walks and 62 strikeouts over 51.1 innings in his career against Pittsburgh and you have to back the Brew Crew here, especially since the Pirates may not be done dealing.
