No. 15 Arizona State and No. 16 Iowa State meet for the Big 12 Championship game. Both teams are 10-2 overall and finished 7-2 in the conference. ASU has a 1-2 punch in quarterback Sam Leavitt and Cam Skattebo in the backfield. Iowa State started the season with seven straight wins, then they lost two in a row to Texas Tech and Kansas. They finished with three wins in a row and got a little help and are now in the Championship game with a chance at the playoffs. Quarterback Rocco Becht has thrown for 3,021 yards with 20 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel each had 1,000 receiving yards and combined for 15 touchdowns. The Cyclones offense has scored 21 or more points in eight games this season.
ASU’s Cam Skattebo is the eighth-leading rusher with 1,398 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns. Quarterback Sam Leavitt has thrown for 2,444 yards and 21 touchdowns with only five interceptions. Wide receiver Jordyn Tyson is out indefinitely after injuring his left arm their last game. He had 75 receptions for 1,101 yards and 10 touchdowns. ASU has been playing their best football down the stretch. If Iowa State cannot slow down the running game they could be in big trouble as ASU will go with play action and hit some big plays deep. Leavitt has thrown three touchdown passes in four of his last five games. The Cyclones' defense has allowed 21 or more points in eight games this season. As well as Iowa State's passing offense has been, they have been inconsistent on the offensive side of the ball. ASU has won five straight games and has gone 5-0 ATS. Iowa State has gone just 2-4 ATS in its last six games. Iowa State is 7-1 in its last eight games against Big 12 opponents. I am looking for a close game and it will come down to who can convert in the red zone. The Sun Devils are 113th in red zone offense while the Cyclones are 62nd. If it comes down to the kicking game, the Sun Devils are 132nd in field goal percentage while the Cyclones are 67th. ASU is in its first year in the Big 12 and has become a nice story. I am going with Iowa State in this one as when it comes down to the areas that matter the Cyclones have an advantage.
Play on Iowa State. This is a 3% play.
