Detroit added DeBrincat in the offseason and will be looking to improve from their 35-37-10 record from last year but have a very difficult first opponent in New Jersey. Detroit has a strong top line but a weak defense and questionable goaltending.

New Jersey has a lethal forward group and TWO lethal powerplays and are a top 5 team in my power rankings. New Jersey adding Tyler Toffoli makes their top 6 forward group one of the best in the NHL.

New Jersey won 2 of the 3 meetings last season winning 6-2 and 5-1. I like a similar result in this game I lean with the OVER but will take New Jersey -1.5.
