The Phillies are coming into this game losing their last 2 straight as they lost their series over the weekend against the Pirates and they have been very inconsistent since coming out of the break. They are going up against a Marlins team that has been playing much better in their recent games as they have won 3 of their last 4 as well as 4 of their last 6 games. The Marlins also just retook 2nd place in the NL East and will be hungry to spread that gap here as they have a 0.5 game lead over the Phillies and can use this home series to gain some ground for the Wild Card spot. Edward Cabrera is starting for the Marlins and he is 5-6 with a 4.74 ERA this season. He has not been pitching poorly recently, he has had 2 starts in his last 3 where he allowed 3 earned runs and 5 earned runs but he has also allowed 2 earned runs or less in 3 of his last 5 starts and has also been a much better starter at home this season. He has been very good and consistent at home this season as he has allowed 2 earned runs or less in all 6 of his home starts this year and has also allowed just 1 earned run in 11 innings pitched of his last 2 home starts. Taijuan Walker is starting for the Phillies and he is 11-4 with a 4.06 ERA this season. He has been a very good starter all season but recently he has not been pitching as well as he has had 4 starts in the month of July and has allowed at least 2 earned runs in all of those, also allowing at least 4 earned runs in 2 of those. He has not been as good on the road this season either as he allowed 4 earned runs in his last road start and has also allowed at least 3 earned runs in 6 of his last 8 road starts. He is not getting blown up in his starts but he has still been consistently allowing more runs recently and he will get himself into trouble here against this Marlins offense that has been playing better recently. The Marlins also have a very good bullpen to back Cabrera and they do not allow a lot of runs so even the few runs that Walker allows here will be enough to cost his team the game. The Marlins will win this game at home.
