South Dakota is coming into this game with a 5-3 record this season but they have not been playing well in their recent games as they have lost 3 of their last 6. They have 2 wins in their last 3 games but both of those wins came at home against schools who are not in Division I and their loss also came at home in a 1 point game against Air Force. Prior to this stretch of weaker teams they have faced, they also lost 2 of their last 3 games with a 4 point wins against a 2-7 VMI team at a neutral location while also losing to IPFW by 10+ points at a neutral location and losing to DePaul by 12 points on the road. They have not played well at all during this stretch of weaker teams as their wins are not impressive and they have also played in just 1 road game this season, losing by 12 points to DePaul who is 1-6 overall and still one of the worst teams in the Big East like they were last season. They are going up against a Western Illinois team that is 3-5 this season but they have also had a much tough schedule in recent games. They have lost 3 of their last 4 games with all 3 of those losses coming on the road and they also played against some very good teams in those as their losses were against Wisconsin, Illinois, and Valparaiso. All 5 of their losses have actually come on the road this season as well, their other 2 road losses coming against SMU and UTSA who are both above .500 as well. Western Illinois has only played in 3 home games and 2 of them were huge wins over schools who are not in Division I but their only win against a Division I school also came in their other home game. They are also coming off of one of those 40 point home wins so they will have some confidence here at home against this South Dakota team that has had a much weaker schedule.
