Georgia Southern is coming into this bowl game with a 6-6 record this season as their last win came against Georgia State to become bowl eligible, then they ended the season losing their last 4 straight games. They are going up against an Ohio team that finished the season 9-3, winning their last 3 straight games, but now they are dealing with a lot of their players opting out for this game as well as entering the transfer portal. They are going to be without their starting quarterback Kurtis Rourke as well as he has entered the transfer portal. Georgia Southern does not have nearly as many players opting out for this game and they will be hungry to end their season on a good note with a win in a bowl game. Ohio had much higher expectations this season though as they were one of the best teams in the MAC entering the year but failed to even make it to the MAC Championship. Now with all of their opt outs their motivation is questionable while Georgia Southern was a much stronger team at the beginning of the season during the non-conference portion of their schedule, including going 1-0 against MAC opponents.
