The Padres are coming into this game playing much better in their recent games as they have won 4 of their last 5 games, but they are coming off of an 11-4 loss in their last game and still have not been great this season at 18-19. They are going up against a Cubs team that has been much better at 21-14 this season but the Cubs have also been getting hot again as they have won their last 2 straight games, scoring at least 5 runs in each of those. Yu Darvish is starting for the Padres here and he is 1-1 with a 3.45 ERA this season. He is coming off of a good start which he allowed no runs in 5 innings against the Reds, but he has not been great this season as prior to that start he had 3 straight starts which he allowed at least 3 earned runs in. His worst start in that span was actually a start against the Cubs earlier this season as well as he allowed 4 earned runs in 3 innings but his team went on to win that game 9-8. The Padres only scored 4 runs in their last game though and their offense is going to struggle more in this game with Justin Steele starting for the Cubs as he is 0-0 with a 1.93 ERA this season. He has only made 1 start this season which came back in March, but he was great in that start as he only allowed 1 earned run in a little under 5 innings pitched. He was also a stud last season as he finished with a 3.06 ERA and was under 2.00 for the 1st month and a half of the season as well. Steele is going to keep this Padres lineup at bay while the Cubs have been heating up again and they have already gotten to Darvish earlier this season for some runs. The Cubs will win this game.
