Virginia Tech is coming into this game off of a 7-6 season last year and they have returned a lot of their starters for this season. They are going to be a much improved team this season, but they were not very good on the road last year. They were 2-4 on the road last season with their 2 wins coming against Boston College and Virginia. They have a dual threat quarterback that rushed for over 800 yards last season, but he was not an accurate passer as he completed less than 60% of his passes. They are going up against a Vanderbilt team that was 2-10 last season and has been awful over the last few years. They are also going to be a much improved team this season with a lot of new players on the team. Jerry Kill came over as a consultant after his fantastic season coaching New Mexico State last season, and he brought the starting quarterback Diego Pavia with him. Pavia is coming off of a season at New Mexico State which he completed 60.4% of his passes, throwing for 2,973 yards with 26 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. He is also a dual threat as he rushed for 923 yards last season. Vanderbilt has been awful for years but they have a chance to turn things around this season with their new quarterback and the other players they have brought in. They only won 2 games last season, but those 2 wins came in their first 2 games of the season, winning their home opener against Hawaii. Vanderbilt is going to put up a good fight at home here and they will not allow Virginia Tech to pull away too much with both teams looking to run the ball a lot. Vanderbilt will cover the spread in this game.
