We’re getting some line value here with UTEP stepping into this game on a 7 game losing streak, many tight losses during that stretch, but this is a brand new season. The Miners just played @ Sam Houston on March 6th and they were +2 in that game. The Miners led for most of the way @ SHSU but lost by 2 points. The Bearkats shot 58% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc at home and they game still came down to the final seconds.
In their meeting @ UTEP, the Miners had a much easier time leading by 20 points and ultimately winning 81-72. SHSU’s largest lead in that game was 1 point. After their recent loss @ Sam Houston, Miner head coach Golding said “we didn’t compete at all on the defensive end” which is understandable when you allow your opponent to make 58% of their shots. Expect a much better effort from UTEP in this quick revenge spot.
UTEP has been really close to have a very solid CUSA season as 8 of 11 CUSA losses were by 7 point or less. They’ve been pretty solid away from home with 3 conference wins including a win @ Liberty, the top rated team in the league and @ New Mexico State who finished 4th. They also took MTSU and Jacksonville State (tied for 2nd place) to the wire on the road. SHSU had 1 road win in CUSA play and finished 1 game behind UTEP in the conference.
The Miners were the better team all season and we’re getting value because of their recent misfortune. We like the Miners to win this one and cover the short number.
