Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell has assembled a deep team capable of cracking the College Football Playoff this season.
FSU has a massive advantage in the trench (190 starts and the fifth-best PFF pass-blocking grade in 2023) and its offense should find its footing as the game goes along against GT's porous defense. The Seminoles will establish the ground game early, a strategy many teams will take against the Yellow Jackets' front this year. Georgia Tech allowed 5.4 yards per carry last year and ranked 122nd in EPA/Rush Allowed.
Once the run game is established, Oregon State grad transfer DJ Uiagalelei will lead the Florida State passing attack down the field. The veteran (40 career starts) ranked 25th among qualified quarterbacks in EPA last year, averaging 8.4 yards per attempt. He had 20 big-time throws compared to just nine turnover-worthy plays. He was especially deadly off play-action, which is a fit for Norvell's offense.
The Yellow Jackets return eight starters on offense, including QB Haynes King. While the 23-year-old brings upside to the Tech offense, he has been turnover-prone throughout his collegiate career. Last season, he committed 18 turnover-worthy plays and threw 16 INTs. Florida State allowed the second-fewest big passing plays last year and was also stout against the run, ranking in the top 20 in both Stuff Rate and Defensive Line Yards.
I will wager on FSU at -10 and recommend betting on them up to -13.5.
