Max Freid presents a tough challenge for San Diego today. The southpaw was dominant in September (2.14 ERA and 0.98 WHIP) and is coming off a terrific performance in an important game versus Kansas City (zero runs with nine strikeouts in 8.2 innings). He is 3-1 with a 2.30 ERA in five career appearances against the Padres. Over the last month, Fried has a 27.1% K percentage and 5.3% BB percentage, and just 28.7 percent of his pitches were hard-hit.

Joe Musgrove is a talented pitcher, but he has stranded a lot of runners on base (89.3% LOB%) over the last month and may find it challenging to get out of jams against a desperate Braves team that ranks 6th in wOBA (.324), 7th in wRC+ (106) and 2nd in hard-hit percentage (36.0%) in the last 30 days. The Braves' bullpen has been consistent all year too, ranking 3rd in ERA (3.32) and 5th in WHIP (1.18) with the fewest walks surrendered (172) in MLB.
