I'm backing the Crimson Tide to cover the 2.5-spread on Friday at Purdue as my best bet of today's CBB slate.
Bama is due for positive shooting regression after a slow start from three-point range, and we should see much more from potential All-American Mark Sears today, as well. The Tide are expected to be the frontrunner for NCAAB's top offense and, well, they haven't played that way through the first three games. That's likely to change soon, though, and there's no better time and place to make a statement than against Purdue at Mackey Arena.
The Boilermakers already faced the impossible task of replacing Zach Edey, but now they are without their logical replacement, as freshman big man Daniel Jacobsen suffered a season-ending injury. That leaves Purdue even more vulnerable in the paint against Alabama's trees, 6'11 Grant Nelson, 6'11 Jarin Stevenson and 6'11 Clifford Omoruyi. The Boilermakers struggled defensively against Yale and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, allowing 1.00 or more points per possession, so how are they going to stop the Tide?
Couple that with Purdue's fewer scoring options this season — three players are scoring the majority of their points – and I feel confident that the Crimson Tide will be victorious on Friday in West Lafayette. Bet on the visitors to pull out the road win and cover the 2.5-point spread!
