After pulling even with Guardians for the AL Central lead on August 27th, the Royals picked the absolute worst time to go into an offensive funk. They’ve now lost seven straight and, perhaps even more disturbing, they’ve averaged just 2.4 rpg in their last seven.

Seth Lugo gets the start for KC and even though he is still top-10 in ERA in the AL, he’s struggled a bit lately, especially at home. At Kaufman Stadium since July 27th, he’s posted an ERA of 5.46 and a WHIP of 1.50. The Royals have gone just 1-3 in those games.

Ben Lively gets the nod for the finale today and he’s had three outstanding road starts since the All-Star game, surrendering just 4 ERs.
Honestly, with the way they’re swinging the bats right now, I don’t think the starter who faces the Royals even matters. Fading a team on a 7-game losing streak for plus money is an absolute gift…and we’re unwrapping it tonight.
