When you think about these two teams, what is the first thing that comes to mind? For me its offense. However, neither team has played to many high-scoring affairs of late. Suffice it to say, I think that changes tonight. The Isles come in with plenty of momentum though, they're looking for their fifth straight win as the Capitals come to Long Island in the opener of a home and home set. New York actually won for the ninth time in its last ten games with a 1-0 shootout victory over the Flyers on Monday. The Isles four-game win skein includes a 5-2 win over Tampa Bay and back to back victories over the Penguins; not surprisingly New York's offensive unit ranks among the NHL's leaders with 33.6 shots and 3.05 goals per game. Washington will certainly be eager to return to the ice after a 2-1 loss to Buffalo on Saturday; note though, despite the final result, there's some room to read between the lines as the Caps would post a season high 44 shots on goal in that one. From a trend based stand point this is definitely a solid play as well, note that Washington has seen the total go OVER the number in three of four vs. division opponents this season and in five of its last seven vs. teams with winning records, while New York has seen the total eclipse the number in both games that it's played this year after shutting out its opponent and in four of its last five home games when the total in the contest is set at 5.5. In my opinion, the situation, the numbers and the trends all point to the OVER as the smart move here.
