I am primarily a situational handicapper, but don't follow any one particular methodology to the letter and believe that being flexible with one's approach is the best way to handicap a game. To that end, I play Over/Unders, I play underdogs, and I also play favorites. I have always maintained that I would gladly lay -500 odds if I thought the line should in fact by -800. Some times a favorite is a favorite for a reason and in this case I think the Rangers should be an even bigger one. After back-to-back losses coming out of the All Star break, the Rangers got off the schneid with a convincing 4-1 win over the Hurricanes last time out. The Panthers also have a win sandwiched around a couple of losses since returning, most recently a 3-1 setback in New Jersey. Revenge is always a factor that I take into consideration when handicapping a game, but you have to be careful, it can be over rated in many situations as well and that's the case here I think. One big reason I'm so confident is because of goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, he's posted a tiny 1.62 GAA in his last three vs. the Panthers. Also note that the Rangers have totaled 15 non-shootout goals in the last four overall vs. Florida. The Panthers put together a good stretch before the break, but the team has regressed, it has in fact lost six of its last seven, being held to one or two goals in five of those seven. I think the writing is on the wall and a blowout is in the cards, NEW YORK is definitely worthy of a second look in this spot. How about you, do the Rangers lay the hammer down, or can the Panthers score the upset?
