This is a 10* O/U EAST-COAST EXPRESS on the UNDER between the Carolina Hurricanes and the Ottawa Senators.
For a number of different reasons I expect this total to fall below the posted number once the final horn sounds. Both teams are coming off some pretty high-scoring affairs of late but all signs point to a more defensive battle in my opinion. The Sens are coming off a 2-1 win over 30th-placed Buffalo on Tuesday and then hammered Edmonton 7-2 on Saturday. Now here comes 28th ranked Carolina; note though that the Hurricanes have looked much better since the start of the calendar year in going 9-5-3. The last time these teams got together, the Hurricanes would escape with the 3-2 win on January 17th. Carolina has been respectable defensively all year, goaltender Cam Ward has posted a 2.41 GAA in 36 games, and along with backup Anton Khudobin, the Hurricanes have the 14th best goals against average in the NHL. Note that Carolina has seen the total go UNDER the number in nine of 13 this year after allowing four goals or more, while the Sens have seen the total dip below the posted number in five of eight this season after a win by two goals or more. In my opinion, the situation, the numbers and the trends do all indeed point to the UNDER as the savvy move in this one.
