This is a 10* BIG TIGER on the UNDER between the New Orleans Pelicans and the Memphis Grizzlies.

While we are primarily a situationally based handicapping service, we don't prescribe to any one single methodology, but instead feel that being flexible with ones approach is the best way to secure profits over the longterm. Sometimes we keep it simple, while other times we'll take into account a bunch of different factors, like motivation, scheduling and significant injuries. Recognizing classic "spot bets" is something we always do as well, IE: the "look ahead" spot, the "let down" spot and the "trap" game. The actual contestants on the field of play rarely enter into our equation when making selections, unless it's a Top 3 player like a LeBron James or Aaron Rodgers etc. One set of criteria which we almost always use when making our decisions, are Against The Spread (ATS) statistics. Sometimes these stats can be overrated and other times they help foreshadow the outcome of a contest.

This particular play is based on a few different factors:

Major competition: Both teams will be highly motivated: Memphis is rolling, its 4-1 on a season-high homestand, most recently coming off a 103-95 victory against New York on Saturday. Even with guard Mike Conley missing, the Grizzlies have won eight of their last nine on their own floor. The Pelicans have dropped two straight overall in the series and two straight in Memphis, so obviously the visitors will be extremely eager to break that slide. Ultimately we expect this intense rivalry to translate into defensive production on the court.

Over/Under ATS statistics: Note that New Orleans has seen the total go UNDER the number in 18 of 22 on the road this year and in ten of 13 after scoring 105 points or more, while Memphis has seen the total stay below the posted number in two of three this year after playing to three or more consecutive OVERS and in ten of 18 vs. teams with losing records.

The bottom line: Fierce competition leads to a slower paced game with a lot of half court sets while on offense. Play on the UNDER.
