Lester has been razor sharp in August, posting back-to-back wins, a 1.20 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 15:2 K:BB ratio in 13 innings of work. Note that Lester is also 4-0 with a 3.67 ERA at home.
Carlos Martinez: He's 10-7 with a 3.29 ERA. Martinez has been less sharp of late, after giving up four runs to Miami, he'd would allow seven runs over five innings, including a pair of three-run homers in a 13-5 loss to Atlanta on Saturday.
The bottom line: St. Louis is desperate to make up ground, but Chicago can smell the blood in the water. Martinez is clearly starting to regress, while Lester continues to improve with almost every outing. Consider a second look at the CUBS in this one.
