This is a 10* TOTAL EXPRESS on the OVER between the Atlanta Hawks and the Washington Wizards.
We don't subscribe to any single handicapping methodology, but instead feel that being flexible with ones approach is the best way to secure profits over the longterm. Sometimes we keep it simple, while other times we'll take into account numerous different factors, like motivation, scheduling and significant injuries. Recognizing classic "spot bets" is something we always do as well, IE: the "look ahead" spot, the "let down" spot and the "trap" game. One set of criteria which we always use when making our decisions are Against The Spread (ATS) statistics.
This particular play is based on a few different factors:
As note that Washington has seen the total go OVER the number in its last four at home, in eight of its last nine after allowing 100 points or more and in seven of its last eight on one days rest, while Atlanta has seen the total go OVER the number in seven of its last nine road games against a team with a home winning percentage of greater than .600 on the season.
The bottom line: Paul Millsap is out for Atlanta, but the Hawks are clearly desperate tonight after losing four straight. We're expecting the hungry visitors to push the pace from start to finish. But the Wizards have problems of their own, they've lost two straight and four of their last five, so it's safe to say that the home side is looking for a break out performance as well (despite the struggles, note that Washington is still fifth in the league in scoring with 108.8 PPG). The situation and the trends point to the OVER as the savvy move in this one.
