Total: 8.50 | -104.00 Over
Result: Win
This is an 8* TOTAL ASSASSIN on the UNDER between the New York Yankees and the LA Angels.
Both teams have been playing to some higher-scoring affairs of late and neither of these starters instills much confidence. However, we believe the overall situation will lend itself to a lower-scoring UNDER once it's all said and done.
The visitors hand the ball to Masahiro Tanaka (5-6, 6.55 ERA) who was considered the team's "ace" coming into the 2017 campaign after he posted a career season in 2016. Tanaka though has struggled with command this year and there's been talk of even sending him down to the minors for a stint.
Note though that New York has seen the total go under the number in three of its last four after scoring 13 or more runs.
The home side counters with Alex Meyer (2-3, 4.08) who gave up one unearned run off three hits while striking out nine over six innings in a 4-0 loss to Detroit on Wednesday. Note that he's 1-0 with a tiny 2.25 ERA at home as well.
The bottom line: We think that the shift to the late night West Coast game throws a "monkey-wrench" into the well oiled Yanks offense tonight. We're also expecting Tanaka to bounce back here and we look for Meyer to continue his strong play in front of the home town crowd. When you add it all up, all signs do indeed point to the UNDER as the savvy move in this contest.
