This is an 8* play on the OVER between BYU and Fresno State.
We don't subscribe to any single handicapping methodology, but instead feel that being flexible with ones approach is the best way to secure profits over the longterm. Sometimes we keep it simple, while other times we'll take into account numerous different factors, like motivation, scheduling and significant injuries. Recognizing classic "spot bets" is something we always do as well, IE: the "look ahead" spot, the "let down" spot and the "trap" game. One set of criteria which we always use when making our decisions are Against The Spread (ATS) statistics.
This particular play is based primarily on strong/relevant O/U ATS statistics:
As note that BYU has seen the total go OVER the number in three of its last four against the Mountain West Conference, while Fresno State has seen the total go OVER the number in seven of its last nine non-conference games (including in two of three this season) and in eight of its last 14 in front of the home town crowd.
The bottom line: A great "situational" play in our opinion, as Fresno State still needs one more win to become bowl elgible, failing to notch that victory last time out in 26-16 loss to UNLV. And with its big 41-20 win over SJSU last week, BYU will need to win its remaining four games to hit the six win mark. With each team pushing the pace from start to finish, all signs do indeed point to the OVER as the savvy move in this contest.
