We don't subscribe to any single handicapping methodology, but instead feel that being flexible with ones approach is the best way to secure profits over the longterm. Sometimes we keep it simple, while other times we'll take into account numerous different factors, like motivation, scheduling and significant injuries. Recognizing classic "spot bets" is something we always do as well, IE: the "look ahead" spot, the "let down" spot and the "trap" game. One set of criteria which we always use when making our decisions are Against The Spread (ATS) statistics.
This particular play is based primarily on strong/relevant ATS statistics and common sense:
As note that Detroit is just 1-2 ATS in its last three against good offensive teams which average 106 PPG, while Philadelphia is 7-3 ATS at home and 6-4 ATS when playing the role of favorite.
The bottom line: Philadelphia did beat Boston 97-86 back on October 26th, but the 76ers come in having lost two of three. We don't think the home side "looks past" its tough Eastern conference foe today, with a home game against the lowly Suns on Monday night. Detroit on the other hand had a three-game win streak snapped in a 109-91 setback at Washington in its latest action and with a game in San Antonio on Monday, it's not too hard to imagine the visitors getting caught "looking ahead" to that tough one. Lay the points, play on the 76ERS.
