I think the Rockies are worth laying some extra juice in this position thanks to a favorable pitching matchup and a day off. The Twins will start rookie Kris Johnson (0-0, 0.00 ERA); Johnson will take the rotation spot of Ricky Nolasco, who was placed on the disabled list with a right elbow issue. Johnson held the Dodgers scoreless over 4 1/3 innings in a spot start earlier this year, but the southpaw walked six in the outing. Note that Johnson had control issues in his only other appearance in the bigs and could have a rude awakening here in the toughest park in baseball to pitch in. Colorado will respond with Jorge De La Rosa (9-6, 4.50 ERA); De La Rosa is 5-2 with a strong 3.73 ERA at Coors field this season. The Rockies had the day off yesterday and are feeling good after taking two of three from the Padres. Note that star outfielder Carlos Gonzalez is expected back in the lineup after an extended stint on the DL. The Twins meanwhile finished a four game set in Seattle and now have to play three games in Colorado before the All-Star Break next week. Minnesota is 21-27 on the road this season and having to play National League rules shouldn't help. I think it's a fair price to pay here.
