This is an 8* SITUATIONAL PITCHING MISMATCH on the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The visitors come in with momentum after last night's big come from behind victory, and they also send what I believe to be the superior starter to the mound; when the smoke does finally clear at the end of this one, I look for Vance Worley and the Pirates to find a way to get the job done at the end of the night. Worley (4-1, 2.54 ERA) won't likely have to face Diamondbacks slugger Paul Goldschmidt in this one after he was hit in the hand in the ninth inning last night. It likely wouldn't have mattered, Worley has been fantastic since joining the starting rotation, posting a very respectable 2.27 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in seven starts. Most recently Worley went nine innings in a 5-0 win at San Francisco on Monday. The home side counters with Chase Anderson (6-4, 3.34 ERA) who had his shortest start of his rookie season in a 5-1 loss at Pittsburgh on July 2nd. Since that atrocoius outing Anderson has been much better, posting a 1.89 ERA in three starts. But for the most part MLB handicapping comes down to starting pitching, Worley gets the slight nod today in my opinion, while the Pirates' definitely get a big nod at the plate, I expect last night's momentum and confidence to carry over here; lay the short price.
