Point Spread: 7.00 | -107.00 Iowa (Away)
Result: Win
This is an 8* SITUATIONAL DESTRUCTION on Iowa.
Iowa is 2-1 SU and 0-3 ATS; suffice it to say, I think this team plays hard on the road today and will keep this one close enough to at the very least sneak in through the back door down the stretch with what I feel to be a healthy amount of points that it's been affored. Pittsburgh has grabbed National attention of late, it would beat Notre Dame last year, it won a Bowl game and has jumped out to a 3-0 start this season, which included an ACC road win at Boston College. Pittsburgh has been grinding out victories with a relentless and bruising fourth ranked rushing attack, but now that ground game is going to face the Hawkeyes' sixth-ranked defense at stopping the run and I think this will ultimately prove to be the difference in the outcome of this contest. Note that Iowa is 6-0 ATS in its last six away from friendly confines. Pittsburgh is averaging 344.3 yards per game, but faces a Hawkeyes unit which is allowing just 65.7 yards per contest. In fact, Iowa is the only team in the Big Ten and one of eight programs across the country which has not allowed a rushing TD yet this season. This is a big game for Iowa though, I think it can catch a complacent Pittsburgh team a little flat-footed here, the Hawkeyes will surely be eager to atone for last week's 20-17 loss to Iowa State as 13-point favorites. Iowa will have to play with an edge today, Pitt is a big team and stopping Panthers RB James Conner will need an intense and concerted overall effort. The offense will need to be sharp as well though, remember last year that the Hawkeye coaches showed some real creativity vs. Ohio State, they would use a three TE set and came very close to pulling off the outright upset. I think IOWA has so far under-performed this year, but in its first true road game of the season, expect it to leave everything it has on the field and to finally come away with an ATS cover.
