The New Jersey Devils are coming off a 3-0 loss at Boston last night but will be back on home ice here hosting their neighbors the New York Islanders. The hosts will be looking to record a fourth consecutive home win, and I like their chances as the visitors seem to have somewhat lost the momentum that carried them through a successful month of December.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. Situational/Motivational - I expect the Devils to be amped up to the maximum tonight facing the prospect of the visitors leaving their own building with the win for a fifth consecutive meeting. They've dropped two games in New York already this season, tonight's the time to return the favor.
2. Road Woes - The Islanders will play their fifth consecutive game away from home, and that within a nine day span. They're coming off back-to-back losses and have lost all of their last four on the road versus a team with a home winning % of less than .400. They have a game in Columbus tomorrow as well, and that might linger in the back of Jack Capuano's head when managing the roster tonight.
3. X-Factor - Patrik Elias has tallied two goals and two assists over his last two games at Prudential Center and has enjoyed his previous meetings with the Islanders, notching 85 points over 88 match-ups.
