There is a lot at stake tonight as the Ottawa Senators are hosting the Washington Capitals at Canadian Tire Centre in Canada's Capital. The visitors can secure a playoff berth with a win here, while the Sens can get within one point of the Bruins for the final wild card in the East if they were to pick up the two points. I think we'll see both teams coming in with a playoff mentality and goals are likely to come at a premium in this contest.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. The Hamburglar - Andrew Hammond is the lone reason why Ottawa is even in contention of making the playoffs, showing a 16-1-1 record behind a 1.80 GAA on the season. He allowed five goals against the Rangers before sitting out two games with an injury, but has been back to his old self of late leading the Sens to back-to-back post-regulation 2-1 victories against Tampa Bay and Detroit. If anyone can stop a red hot Ovechkin is the Hamburglar.
2. Previous Meetings - The first two meetings on the season have seen a total of six goals with the Caps claiming both 2-1. That is now 13 of the last 16 match-ups that have gone under the total, including four straight in Ottawa.
3. X-Factor - While the Caps have been efficient on the power play of late, the same can not be said about Sens who have converted on only five of their last 50 chances on the man advantage.
Selection: This is a play on WAS@OTT to go under the total (10*)
