The New Jersey Devils and the Florida Panthers are both closing out the regular season tonight at BB&T Center. Neither team is going to the post-season and the Devils seems to have packed it in long ago winning only one of their last 10 games. The Panthers on the other hand won 4-2 against the desperate Boston Bruins Thursday and I think they'll pick up the two points here as well.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. Revenge - New Jersey has won each of the two previous meetings on the season, both on home-ice. The Panthers can not be pleased with that at all, especially considering they're the team sitting higher in the standings. They're 18-4 in their last 22 against a team with a winning % below .400 and the home team is 7-1 over the last eight in this series.
2. Special Teams - The Panthers have scored on the man advantage in both of their last two games and are 6-for-21 over their last seven. New Jersey has allowed four goals on the penalty kill over its last two games alone giving the Rangers and the Lightning a combined 15 chances on the power play.
3. X-Factor - Jaromir Jagr has five goals and 11 assists over 19 games for the Panthers since coming over from New Jersey. He has one goal and four points on the month so far and I don't think he'll show his old club any mercy.
Selection: This is a play on the Florida Panthers(8*)
