The Anaheim Ducks will host the Calgary Flames for Game 1 of this best of 7 Western Conference semifinals series. The Ducks dismissed the Jets comfortably over four straight games in round 1 while the Flames trickled past the Canucks in six games. I think the Ducks will come out strong here in the series opener showing why they're the #1 seed in the Conference and the Flames just #8.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. Fredrik Andersen - Andersen had to take the back-seat in last season's post-season as the Ducks opted to go with Jonas Hiller, now at Calgary, to tend the net. To say that Andersen has made the most of his chance in this years playoff would be an understatement as he's posted a 2.20 GAA with a .924 SV% over the four consecutive wins against the Jets. He was particularly impressive home at the Duck Pond yielding just three goals while making 53 saves over two games.
2. Calgary's Lack Of Depth - The Flames top-line consisting of Johnny Gaudreau, Sean Monahan and Jiri Hudler scored seven of the Flames 18 goals against the Nucks. Expect the Ducks destructive center Ryan Kesler and his line-mates to be matched-up against the super-trio. If they're not allowed to produce the Flames will struggle to find the net.
3. X-Factor - The Flames have won just two of the last 33 meetings at Anaheim.
Selection: This is a play on the Anaheim Ducks (8*)
