The New York Yankees are coming to Fenway Park Friday to open yet another series in this classic rivalry against the Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox won two of three in the Bronx earlier in the season, and I think they look good to come out ahead from this contest as well.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. Pitching - The Bronx Bombers will hand the ball to the notorius slow-starter CC Sabathia (0-4, 5.96 ERA) who was lit up for seven runs on nine hits with three homers over five innings against the Mets his last time out. He's 5-6 with a 6.44 ERA in his last 13 overall against the Red Sox and will be up against a fired up Boston team who scored 18 runs scored over a three game set against the Blue Jays. Boston will counter with Justin Masterson (2-0, 5.16 ERA) and the 30 year old is off to solid start to the season. He's given up more than three runs only once this year when he surrendered seven runs on eight hits against the Nats but Boston still won that game 8-7.
2. Batters versus Pitcher - Masterson has the Yankees roster limited to a .218 batting average over 110 at bats with Mark Teixeira going a lowly 2-for-17 with five strikeouts lifetime. The Red Sox are batting a more respectable .248 versus Sabathia led by Shane Victorino who is batting .400 over 25 at bats against the veteran.
3. X-Factor - The Red Sox are 8-1 in Masterson's last nine home starts.
Selection: This is a play on the Boston Red Sox (10*)
