The surging Philadelphia Phillies have won all but one of their last eight match-ups and will be looking to deny the Colorado Rockies a split of this four-game set at Coors Field. The hosts are coming in as a favorite, but I like the visitors to record an upset.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. Pitching - The Rockies will hand the ball to Jorge De La Rosa (1-2, 6.56 ERA) who is coming off seven scoreless innings in a two-hit ballgame at Dodger Stadium. He's struggled at home in the Rocky Mountains though, conceding 16 runs (14 earned) on 18 hits with nine walks in just 11 innings of work over three starts. He's 2-4 with a 5.67 ERA in nine career games (seven starts) against the Phillies who will counter with Jerome Williams (3-3, 5.02 ERA). While he's struggled away from home on the year, he's pretty sharp in the daylight conceding three runs on eight hits over 6 2/3 innings which can be compared to De La Rosa who gave up five runs on five hits with six walks while lasting just four innings in his only daylight start on the season.
2. Vicious Dog - The Phillies are 6-1 in their last seven games as an underdog while the Rockies have lost four of their last five when coming in as a favorite.
3. X-Factor - The Phillies C Carlos Ruiz is 6-for-11 with a pair of doubles against De La Rosa and is coming into this contest looking to extend an eight-game hitting streak.
Selection: This is a play on the Philadelphia Phillies (8*)
