The Toronto Blue Jays have won 10 straight and have overtaken the New York Yankees for the AL East lead. They've handed the Oakland Ahtletics back-to-back losses, but I like the A's chances of recording an upset today with their ace on the hill.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. Pitching - The Athletics hand the ball to Sonny Gray (12-4, 2.06 ERA) who's been outstanding of late, surrendering only a total of four runs over his last four starts. He's an amazing 8-1 with a 1.64 ERA in 12 road-starts for the year and held Toront to two runs in seven innings less than a month ago. The Blue Jays will counter with Mark Buehrle (12-5, 3.34) who's not been particularly sharp in his most recent starts allowing three earned runs in three straight with a total of four homers. He's 9-14 with a 3.57 ERA lifetime against the Athletics and their current roster has a combined .290 batting average against the veteran.
2. Road Warriors - The A's have won seven straight away from home with Gray on the mound and they're 4-0 in his last four starts as a road underdog of +110 to +150.
3. X-Factor - Gray has the current members of the Blue Jays limited to a .224 batting average. Justin Smoak homered last night but he's 1-for-12 in previous meetings with Gray.
Selection: This is a play on the Oakland Athletics (8*)
