The Los Angeles Dodgers had a five-game winning streak ended last night as they were shut out in a 2-0 loss to the Chicago Cubs. I think they're in for more disappointment tonight when they host the San Francisco Giants for the opener of a three-game series.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. Pitching - The Dodgers hand the ball to Brett Anderson (8-8, 3.36) who allowed three unearned runs on five hits in 6 2/3 innings of a 7-4 win at Cincinnati his last start. He had surrendered a total of 13 runs on 23 hits with four homers in 17 frames in his last three outings prior and is 1-2 with a 4.71 ERA in four starts against the Giants on the year. San Francisco will counter with Jake Peavy (4-6, 4.21 ERA) who is 14-3 with 2.30 ERA in 27 career starts against the Dodgers and 6-0 with a 2.51 mark over his last 10 outings at L.A. He held the Cubs to two runs on six hits and three walks in 6 1/3 innings of a 4-2 win his very last start.
2. Situational - The Dodgers have won just two of their last eight series-openers and 1-4 in their last five games following a loss. The Giants are 38-27 against the run-line away from home this season.
3. X-Factor - The Giants' Brandon Belt had four hits and scored three runs yesterday. He's 10-for-22 over his past six games.
Selection: This is a play on the San Francisco Giants +1.5 (8*)
