The New York Islanders picked up a hard-fought win against the Anaheim Ducks last night and after losing to the Sharks on Tuesday, they finish up their California swing in L.A. tonight. The Kings are coming off a five game road trip themselves, and they defeated the Stars 3-1 on Tuesday. They've now had a day to rest in their home town and I think the Kings are well worth the price in this match-up.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. The Islanders penalty kill - While the Kings are not known for their power play, they might have a good shot at bettering their stats with the man advantage tonight. They'll be up against the worst penalty kill in the league by far, as the Islanders are conceding a goal on nearly 64% of their penalties.
2. Home Cookin' - The Kings dropped their season opener as they were shutout by the Sharks in San Jose. Maybe that was a blessing in disguise, since they've not underestimated any team at STAPLES Center since going a perfect 6-0. They should have a clear advantage tonight as well, the Islanders have not been able to pick up a win in any of their last four visits to LA.
3. X-factor - It's unclear who will tend the goal for the Islanders tonight. First choice Jaroslav Halak is 1-4 while conceding 15 goals over his last four games and is 0-4-2 with a 3.23 GAA against the Kings over the last three seasons. Backup Chad Johnson is 3-1-0 for the season, but behind a rather high 3.47 GAA. Neither option sounds very appealing to me.
Selection: This is a play on the Los Angeles Kings (8*)
