This is an 8* SUPER TOTAL on the OVER between the Chicago White Sox and the Detroit Tigers.

Off a lacklustre three-game sweep in which they struggled at the plate, there's no question that the hard-hitting Tigers will be eager to return to form today. The White Sox come in with considerable momentum after taking three of four from Minnesota and will be looking to take advantage of a favorable pitching matchup. Suffice it to say, I believe the conditions are right for a higher-scoring affair and look for this total to eclipse the number as the game comes down the stretch. Detroit has dropped eight of its last 12 and plated just two runs in losing the final three contests of a four-game series vs. the Angels. I think the home side comes in focused today though and gets things turned around despite having to face Jose Quintana (5-7, 3.45 ERA) who owns a 1.70 ERA over his last 47 2/3's innings of work. Note though that Quintana has been pretty mediocre vs. the Tigers, he faced them twice in April and yielded three runs over six frames in each of those games. One other player to keep your eyes on today is Detroit slugger Miguel Cabrera, who is hitting .359 with two home runs and nine RBIs in nine games vs. the White Sox this year; in fact, Cabrera is batting a whopping .446 with 19 RBIs in his last 17 home games vs. Chicago. As mentioned off the top, the White Sox are rolling offensively right now, rookie slugger Jose Abreu is hitting .371 with eight doubles during a 17-game streak and is batting .306 with four dingers and four doubles against the Tigers. And that's bad news for Detroit's struggling starter Anibal Sanchez (7-4, 3.45 ERA) who was once again roughed up on Wednesday by allowing five runs and a season-high 11 hits over 6 1/3's innings in an 11-5 win over Arizona on Wednesday, very lucky to have been bailed out by his offense (note that excluding a solid showing in besting the Royals on July 11th, the right-hander has posted a deplorable 8.00 ERA in his other three starts this month). I believe there are enough situational factors which are all pointing at the OVER as the prudent wager in this matchup.
