This is a 10* O/U WEST-COAST EXPRESS on the UNDER between the Dallas Stars and the Vancouver Canucks.
For a number of different situational and trend based reasons, I am expecting this total to sneak below the posted number once the final horn blares. Vancouver comes in hungry here, it's been playing sloppy and is in the midst of its longest losing streak of the season. The Canucks have been plagued by defensive lapses and sub-par goaltending, normally two strengths of the team; suffice it to say, I finally expect a return to the norm vs. this dangerous Stars club. The Canucks are also playing with revenge tonight after falling 6-3 in Dallas on October 21st. After four straight high-scoring losses, there's no question in my mind that the home side will be coming out to play with a collective and concerted effort on the defensive end of the ice. Dallas is also coming off a high-scoring game, the Stars would blow a 2-0 lead vs. the Devils on Saturday before pulling away for the 4-3 victory; note that there's definitely room to read between the lines of that win though, the Stars somehow managed to get the job done despite being outshot 11-3 in the third period. So surely the visitors will be equally as motivated here to clean up some rather sloppy play and to also end a four-game overall road losing streak in the opener of this three game trip (it's interesting to note that before their most recent victory in this series, the Stars had held the Canucks to just one goal each time in four previous wins). Note that Dallas has seen the total go UNDER the number in five of nine this year after scoring 4 goals or more in its previous contest, while Vancouver has seen it dip below the posted number in seven of its last ten after playing with three or more days of rest. In my opinion, all signs do indeed point to the UNDER as the savvy move in this one.
