The visitors hand the ball to Alfredo Simon (8-6, 4.63 ERA) who was fortunate to earn a no-decision after getting shelled for five four runs off six hits over 5 2/3's innings of work vs. the Mariners on Monday, giving up four walks and a home run in the poor effort. Unfortunately for Simon, this has been a position in which he's struggled in all season as he's posted a poor 6.08 ERA on the road and is just 4-5 with a ballooned 4.52 ERA in all "night" games thus far. The home side counters with Eduardo Rodriguez (5-3, 4.64 ERA) who was destroyed by the Angles on Monday, giving up seven runs off six hits and two homers over just 1 2/3's innings of work. And unfortunately for Rodriguez, a date at home is not what the doctor ordered to get untacked as he's posted a poor 6.41 ERA in front of the home town crowd to date. Recent performance is always a good indicator and is an important factor to take into account when handicapping starting pitching, so with each of these hurlers clearly coming into this contest struggling with control, there's no question that the OVER becomes a legitimate investment opportunity.
