This is an 8* play on the UNDER between the New York Knicks and the Brooklyn Nets.

We don't subscribe to any one single handicapping methodology, but instead feel that being flexible with ones approach is the best way to secure profits over the longterm. Sometimes we keep it simple, while other times we'll take into account a bunch of different factors, like motivation, scheduling and significant injuries. Recognizing classic "spot bets" is something we always do as well, IE: the "look ahead" spot, the "let down" spot and the "trap" game. The actual contestants on the field of play rarely enter into our equation when making selections, unless it's a Top 3 player like a LeBron James or Aaron Rodgers etc. One set of criteria which we almost always use when making our decisions are Against The Spread (ATS) statistics. Sometimes these stats can be overrated and other times they help foreshadow the outcome of a contest.

This particular play is based on what we feel to be a couple of key factors:

Struggling teams: After a quick start to the season, the Knicks come out of the All-Star Break having dropped ten of their last 11 games overall. The Nets have been a downright failure since the very first tip this year, they'd limp into the All-Star Break at 26 games below .500. Brooklyn has already been eliminated from playoff contention, while New York sits five games back of the eighth spot in the East.

ATS statistics: Note that New York has seen the total go UNDER the number in eight of 12 this year after playing to three or more consecutive losses, while Brooklyn has seen the total dip below the posted number in 22 of 40 vs. good offensive teams which score 99-plus points per contest.

The bottom line: The Nets are going to simply go through the motions to close out the 2015/16 season as they already begin to look-ahead to next year. New York still has a shot at a postseason push but will need to start winning some games. We're expecting a slower-paced game today, as New York tries to control the pace with a lot of half-court sets on offense. And of course, a slower game = less shots and less shots = less points. Play on the UNDER.
