This is an 8* play on the UNDER between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Memphis Grizzlies.

We don't subscribe to any one single handicapping methodology, but instead feel that being flexible with ones approach is the best way to secure profits over the longterm. Sometimes we keep it simple, while other times we'll take into account a bunch of different factors, like motivation, scheduling and significant injuries. Recognizing classic "spot bets" is something we always do as well, IE: the "look ahead" spot, the "let down" spot and the "trap" game. The actual contestants on the field of play rarely enter into our equation when making selections, unless it's a Top 3 player like a LeBron James or Aaron Rodgers etc. One set of criteria which we almost always use when making our decisions are Against The Spread (ATS) statistics. Sometimes these stats can be overrated and other times they help foreshadow the outcome of a contest.

This particular play is based on a few different factors:

Time to adjust: Memphis will be looking to get back to what it does best today and that's play solid defense as it tries to incorporate some of the new pieces it acquired over the All-Star break. With big man Marc Gasol out for the rest of the year Memphis traded Courtney Lee to the Hornets in a three-team deal. In return the Grizzlies received P.J. Hairston and Chris Andersen. With Gasol out, Andersen will be relied upon to provide solid minutes as a defensive anchor. And then on Thursday Memphis traded Jeff Green for Lance Stephenson from the Clippers. Stephenson is a defensive specialist.

ATS statistics: Note that Minnesota has seen the total go UNDER the number in six of its last ten when playing with three days of rest, while Memphis has seen the total dip below the posted number in all three games it's played this season in the same position.

The bottom line: The Wolves would seem to have the upper hand in this contest now as many of their young players are performing at an All Star level and because of this, we're expecting the home side to try and slow this contest down and to take control of the pace. A slower paced contest = less shots and less shots = less points. Play on the UNDER.
