This is a 10* TOTAL EXPRESS on the UNDER between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Boston Bruins.

We don't subscribe to any single handicapping methodology, but instead feel that being flexible with ones approach is the best way to secure profits over the longterm. Sometimes we keep it simple, while other times we'll take into account a bunch of different factors, like motivation, scheduling and significant injuries. Recognizing classic "spot bets" is something we always do as well, IE: the "look ahead" spot, the "let down" spot and the "trap" game. The actual contestants on the field of play rarely enter into our equation when making selections, unless it's a Top 3 player like a LeBron James or Aaron Rodgers etc. One set of criteria which we almost always use when making our decisions are Against The Spread (ATS) statistics. Sometimes these stats can be overrated and other times they help foreshadow the outcome of a contest.

This particular play is based on a few different factors:

Visitors seeking revenge: The Penguins will be out to atone for a lacklustre performance in a home and home set loss to Boston in December in which they were outscored 9-2.

Injured visitors: The Pens are 3-0-1 in their last four on the road, including a 4-3 victory over Buffalo on Sunday, but the team it's definitely important to note that they're still without the services of Evgeni Malkin and Nick Bonino.

Tuukka Rask: He's 10-1-1 with a ridiculous 1.35 GAA in his last 12 vs. the Penguins.

ATS statistics: Note that Pittsburgh has seen the total go UNDER the number in 14 of 16 vs. teams with winning records this year and in four of five road games where the total is set at 5.5, while Boston has seen the total stay below the posted number in 10 of 18 after scoring four goals or more in its previous contest.

The bottom line: Pittsburgh will be eager to punch one into the win column today, while Boston is looking to atone for some shoddy play in front of the home town crowd this season. When taking into consideration all of the above factors, all signs do indeed point to the UNDER as the savvy move in this contest.
