This is a 10* TOTAL ASSASSIN on the UNDER between the Winnipeg Jets and the Dallas Stars.

We don't subscribe to any single handicapping methodology, but instead feel that being flexible with ones approach is the best way to secure profits over the longterm. Sometimes we keep it simple, while other times we'll take into account a bunch of different factors, like motivation, scheduling and significant injuries. Recognizing classic "spot bets" is something we always do as well, IE: the "look ahead" spot, the "let down" spot and the "trap" game. The actual contestants on the field of play rarely enter into our equation when making selections, unless it's a Top 3 player like a LeBron James or Aaron Rodgers etc. One set of criteria which we almost always use when making our decisions are Against The Spread (ATS) statistics. Sometimes these stats can be overrated and other times they help foreshadow the outcome of a contest.

This particular play is based on a few different factors:

Revenge minded visitors: To say this is a revenge game would be a bit of an understatement as Dallas has totalled 17 non-shootout goals and gone 5 for 15 on the power play in taking all four in the series so far this season. There's no question that the Jets will be out to avenge those setbacks and will be risking life and limb in trying to slow down the high-flying Stars.

Superior goaltending: Stars' goaltenders have teamed up to dominate the Jets this year, Kari Lehtonen and Antti Niemi each have two victories vs. Winnipeg so far, combining for a 2.40 GAA in the process.

Look ahead spot: The 5-3 win at Winnipeg on Tuesday broke a three game slide for the Stars, but with a game vs. the Rangers and Detroit over the weekend, it's not too hard to imagine the home side having a letdown in this particular matchup.

ATS statistics: Note that Winnipeg has seen the total go UNDER the number in six of its last eight after allowing five goals or more in the opening game of a home and home set, while Dallas has seen the total dip below the posted number in seven of nine after playing to three straight OVERs.

The bottom line: We think Winnipeg comes to play tonight and gives the Stars everything they can handle and look for this competitive affair to ultimately fall UNDER the posted number.
