This is a 10* NON-CONFERENCE TOTAL OF THE MONTH on the OVER between the Chicago Bulls and the San Antonio Spurs.

We don't subscribe to any single handicapping methodology, but instead feel that being flexible with ones approach is the best way to secure profits over the longterm. Sometimes we keep it simple, while other times we'll take into account a bunch of different factors, like motivation, scheduling and significant injuries. Recognizing classic "spot bets" is something we always do as well, IE: the "look ahead" spot, the "let down" spot and the "trap" game. The actual contestants on the field of play rarely enter into our equation when making selections, unless it's a Top 3 player like a LeBron James or Aaron Rodgers etc. One set of criteria which we almost always use when making our decisions are Against The Spread (ATS) statistics. Sometimes these stats can be overrated and other times they help foreshadow the outcome of a contest.

This particular play is based on a few different factors:

Both teams confident: Chicago is back in the playoff race in the Eastern Conference after winning two straight, while San Antonio continues to roll sitting just three games behind Golden State for first seed in the Western Conference. The Spurs will be especially motivated today to build off a 116-91 win on the road in Minnesota on Tuesday and to also avenge a listless 92-89 setback in the first meeting between these teams back on November 30th.

Poor defensive play: The Bulls have looked better over their last few games on the defensive end of the floor, but the teams still allows 102.5 per game this season (note that on the year Chicago averages 101.6 PPG).

More offensive power: The Spurs just signed veteran guard Kevin Martin from Minnesota, who averaged 20 points on 39.3 percent three-point shooting last season.

ATS statistics: Note that Chicago has seen the total go OVER the number in 13 of its last 19 on the road, while San Antonio has seen the total eclipse the posted number in eight of its last ten in trying to revenge a setback in which it scored less then 90 points.

The bottom line: All signs do indeed point to a more wide-open affair, play on the OVER.
