For the most part MLB handicapping comes down to properly assessing starting pitching. All signs point to these starters battling into the latter frames, which we believe will result in a classic lower-scoring pitchers duel. The A's turn to Kendall Graveman who is 0-1 with a 2.38 ERA. Graveman was unfortunate to receive a no-decision after allowing just one earned run off four hits and two walks while striking out three over six innings vs. the Angels on Tuesday. Note that Graveman posted a respectable 3.22 ERA in all night games last year. The home side counters with hard-throwing right-hander Nathan Eovaldi who is 0-1 with a 6.94 ERA. Eovaldi posted eight K's, but gave up four runs off seven hits and a pair of walks over 6.2 innings in a loss to Toronto on Thursday. Eovaldi was pretty much thrown to the wolves in his first two outings of the year vs. the Jays and Astros, but will matchup a lot better here vs. the oft offensively inept Athletics (note that Eovaldi was 5-1 with a 3.22 ERA at home last season).
