This is a 10* TOTAL ART OF WAR on the OVER between the San Francisco Giants and the New York Yankees.
While the "Law of Averages" is flawed in many ways, we've always felt that lop-sided numbers and trends have a way of naturally "correcting" themselves over the short, mid and long-term. With yesterday's marathon extra inning 2-1 victory for the Giants, the New York Yankees have now seen the total go UNDER the number in nine straight (note that San Fran has now seen the total go UNDER the number in eight of its last ten). With a couple of inconsistent hurlers going head to head in the finale, we think the stage is now finally set for some offensive fireworks. The visitors hand the ball to Jeff Samardzija (9-5, 4.05 ERA) who was most recently rocked for five runs off five hits and four walks over just four innings in a setback to the Friars on Saturday. Samardzija has been consistently inconsistent over the last month or so, posting a poor 7.24 ERA over his last five starts. The home side counters with the equally as volatile Nathan Eovaldi (8-6, 4.93) who comes in off a decent outing vs. the Orioles on Tuesday, giving up just one run over 5.1 innings of work. Eovaldi's role in the starting rotation is a tenuous one though and note that he owns a pedestrian 4.50 ERA in front of the home town crowd thus far. Play the OVER.
