Ventura was likely going to be pulled soon anyways as his team would go on to lose 7-4 to the Rangers. Note that Ventura has struggled with consistency all year and has been particularly horrible on the road, going 2-5 with a 5.26 ERA. The home side counters with ace Cole Hamels (11-2, 2.87) who gave up one unearned run off five hits and three walks while striking out four over 5.1 innings in a victory over these very same Kansas City Royals last week. Hamels has now held the opposition to one or fewer earned runs in six of his last eight starts and is an almost perfect 7-1 with a very respectable 2.78 ERA in all "night" games this year.
