Angels pitcher Alex Meyer: He's 1-3 with a 5.63 ERA. He comes in off a strong outing against the Jays, giving up no runs over five innings for his first victory of the season. We'll caution in reading too much into the one decent effort, as note that he's 0-2 with a 6.00 ERA on the road thus far.
Astros starter Doug Fister: He's 12-12 witha 4.45 ERA. After a great start to the year, Fister has completely fallen apart, he enters this one having lost four straight decisions after giving up seven runs off eight hits (w/ two home runs) in just 3.2 innings in a 7-3 loss to the M's on Sunday. It was the fifth time in his last seven starts that he's failed to complete five innings, posting a 7.85 ERA and 1.85 WHIP in that span. Note that he's just 3-6 with a pedestrian 4.26 ERA at home.
The bottom line: LA is out to play spoiler and has a big opportunity to put some points on the board in facing the confirmed "gas can" Fister. Houston though needs to keep the pedal to the metal and looks to rebound off yesterday's setback. All signs point to this one going OVER as the game comes down the stretch.
