Stephen Nover's MLB Underdog of the Month
(MLB) Arizona vs. Miami, 07/27/2019 2:10 PM, Score: 9 - 2
Money Line: 108.00 Miami (Home)
Result: Loss
Far below the radar screen are the Miami Marlins. They have won three in a row and eight of their last 12 at home. I like the Marlins' chances here in a pitching matchup of Alex Young versus righty Jordan Yamamoto.

I think it's wrong that the Diamondbacks opened the favorite.

Arizona has a losing record against righthanded pitching. The league caught up to Young during his fourth big league start. Young gave up four runs on three hits and three walks in four innings versus the Brewers this past Sunday. Young struggled in Triple-A Reno with a 6.09 ERA in 20 appearances, including eight starts, before coming up to the Diamondbacks.

The Diamondbacks' have serious bullpen issues right now, too. Closer Greg Holland has been ineffective in his last two appearances.

Yamamoto has made seven big-league starts. He's surrendered two earned runs or fewer in six of them. He was hit hard by the Dodgers in his last start. But now he drops way down in class facing the Diamondbacks. Yamamoto is 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA at home while holding batters to a .148 average at Marlins Park.
