This is a 10* play on DAL@NJD to go OVER the total.

The Devils and the Stars are two of the highest scoring in the NHL so far this season, with Dallas ranking 2nd and New Jersey ranking 5th overall in goals scored. It's no surprise to see Dallas filling the net, as they have a star studded lineup full of skilled offensive players. The Devils on the other hand ranked 27th overall in scoring last year, so that's a dramatic improvement.

Mike Cammalleri came over from Calgary in the off-season, and the veteran is off to a hot start with the Devils, leading the team with five goals and seven points.

While they have improved on offense, the same can't be said about their defense and penalty killing. The Devils rank 24th in goals against and 28th in penalty killing with a 72% kill rate. It's a common theme for both teams, as each club struggles to kill penalties, while they each rank among the league's best on the power-play.

Kari Lehtonen has seen a lot of rubber in his last two starts, surrendering nine goals on 83 shots. Curiously the total for tonight's game is set at just 5, which is pretty low all things considered. I think the bookmakers are putting too much stock in old trends, and not paying notice to what's going on so far this season.

Take OVER.
