The Sabres narrowly escaped disaster at home against Chicago last night, as they scored a pair of third period goals putting them ahead 3-2. It's no secret that it's in Buffalo's best interest to finish last in the NHL standings, securing one of the top two draft picks. The fact that Chicago scored twice in less than a minute, scoring the game winner with just 56 seconds remaining is more than just a little suspicious.

It wasn't the first time that Sabres fans cheered wildly when the opposition scored the winning goal. They were equally as jubilant when Arizona won in overtime by a score of 4-3 last Thursday. In fact four of the Sabres last six games have finished with a 4-3 final score, and five of those games have gone over the total.

As obvious as it is that the Sabres are tanking games, it's also obvious that there are players in the locker room that are still coming to the rink to play every night. They'll be up against it at Nassau Coliseum tonight though, as the Isles are hungry for a statement win on home ice. They own one of the league's most potent offenses, averaging over three goals per game.

The Isles might get a crack at Buffalo's backup goaltender Matt Hackett who is 0-4-1 with a 4.34 GAA in five appearances this season.

Take OVER.

Jesse Schule.
