The Mets will host the Phillies in their home opener on Monday, and New York has had an encouraging start to the season. Today's pitching matchup appears to favor the home team, and I think it's worth paying a bit of a steep price to back the Mets.
Jake deGrom will toe the slab for New York, and he was pretty sharp in his debut. He allowed just a pair of runs on six hits over six innings, but the Mets couldn't get him any runs in a 2-1 loss to the Nats. The 26 year old hand a fantastic spring, and he was 5-3 with a 1.70 ERA in 10 starts at home last year.
The Phillies will hand the ball to veteran Aaron Harang, who won his first start of the season. The 36 year old hasn't impressed on the road in recent seasons, and he was hit pretty hard this spring.
The Mets are a young club with all the pieces in place to make a run in the AL East this season, and they should get the job done against an inferior team with an inferior pitcher on the mound.
